Yesterday on 30 Nov 2011, by 167 votes against 17 and 7 abstentions, the Argentinian Lower House passed a gender identity bill. Under this law, trans people will be able not only to have access to gender…
“My advice is to do what you can this second. Big plans that rely on other people, new equipment, long periods of time… they’re no good. What can you do right now? Delve under the anxieties until you get to a place that’s mysterious enough.”—
This challenge is open to everyone of every identification. It is meant to be a challenge both for you to express yourself, and to Disney and its fandom to recognize your voice and your desire for representation and acceptance in the official Disney releases,…
According to the Mirror, the toy store Hamleys has replaced its pink and blue signs with red and white ones, and changed its organization to group toys by “interest and type” rather than by the gender that’s supposed to play with them.
that’s pretty sweet. It made me sad when I took the kids I watch to a toy store a couple months ago and I asked the girl if she liked something- it was like a dinosaur puzzle I think- and the boy whispered to me, “She wouldn’t want that- it’s for boys.” …why is it “only for boys”? Because it was on the “boy’s side,” and children often interpret that as a command rather than as a floorplan design… :/
And it doesn’t escape their notice which things go on which side, either, and the implications of why. Most puzzles, cars, train tracks, building toys (lego and that other brand very popular here), cards: boys. Dolls, barbies with “high fashion” outfits, fake food and fake kitchen pieces, clothing for various toys, prinzessin Lillifee, hairbrushes: girls. There were, of course, several toys that were on both sides/were not related to a gender role, but it’s noticeable that you will never find miniature plates and fake food on the boys side (even though they like playing with it too), or legos on the girls side (unless they’re specifically marketed for girls every once in a while).
(I think I’ve shared this story before when it happened, but whatever.)
